Christmas Concert

Christmas Concert

By Shawn and Harvey

The Holy Cross Christmas concert was held on December 14 and was wonderful. The Ring the Bells, Sing it! concert was performed by Kindergarten-5th, the 6th-8th grade Choir/Drama Elective, and the 5th-8th General Music. They were conducted by Mrs. Franson. The students sang a variety of Christmas songs, performed a hilarious skit, and played lots of fun instruments. During the concert there was an unexpected intermission when a student got sick, but the concert went on flawlessly. Afterward, the seventh graders held a bake sale to raise money for their eighth grade class trip.

Guatemalan Friends!

Guatemalan Friends!

Holy Cross is a sister school  of Divine Savior in Zacapa , Guatemala. A group of eleven from Zacapa came to visit us in Wichita on December 1.  They came to our school and classes. We sang songs and  watched a slideshow in Spanish shown by Mrs. Nidia  as Carolina translated. They all left Wichita on Wednesday ,December 6. I asked Carolina what they do for  Christmas and  she said, “The kids play with fireworks and eat tamales , chicken ,and  tortillas.” It was a lot of fun seeing them.

7th Grade Classroom Decoration

7th Grade Classroom Decoration

By Kyle H.

It is a long standing-tradition at Holy Cross that the 7th Graders get to decorate Mrs. Vanwey’s room for Christmas. This year the class of 2019 tried their hand at it, and the results were amazing! The students were wonderfully working in groups or by themselves, always agreeing and helping each other out. There was plenty of organizational talent and wonderful decorating skills. This year’s class topped last year’s 7th graders, who admitted it was better than theirs. For the class of 2019, the decoration had an awesome turnout. Next year’s 7th graders will have a big challenge to top this year’s.

They have been playing only 3 months, and they did a wonderful job playing a variety of Christmas songs. The two bands played one song together. Then the 6th-8th grade band also played a variety of Christmas songs. After the concert band members went to Freddy’s,  which is a band tradition.
